Les Miserables #4

While reading chapter 4, I began to realize how sad this chapter was probably going to be once it started to talk about the man who was soon to be executed due to being guilty of the act of coining counterfeit money. After his execution, the bishop didn’t seem to have taken the death too well, he never has. As the book stated that he, “stood trembling on its mournful brink, he recoiled with horror.” Later on, the bishop speaks on the situation and states his opinion that people shouldn’t be sentenced to death and that only god should be able to control that fate. In a way, I do agree with the bishop. Ending a person’s life shouldn’t be something for us to control, but let do it’s part and handle it, itself. Then again, I thought about the death penalty and realized that there are times where it becomes necessary. If a person were to commit to an inhumane deed, then maybe it would be best for the people to just execute them.
