The chapter continues the last scene where the wayfarer knocks on their door and the bishop gladly welcomes him in. As the man walked in, he quickly introduced himself in full honesty. Even after talking about himself and about how everyone else in town didn’t want anything to do with him, the bishop did not care so the man was confused. He explained himself again to the bishop, thinking that he probably didn’t understand during the first explanation. To his surprise, the bishop didn’t budge and still let him stay with no hesitation. Besides this, the two other women were still suspicious of the man though.
